Originally from Albany, Western Australia, soprano Bonnie Staude is currently completing a Master of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), under the tutelage of Elizabeth Ritchie. She recently moved to the UK after completing her Bachelor of Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where she was awarded the 2024 WAAPA Medal as the institution’s highest-achieving graduate.
Bonnie joined Buxton International Festival as a Young Artist in 2026, performing in the chorus of Verdi’s La traviata, Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito and Viardot’s Le Dernier Sorcier. Her operatic roles include Chocholka in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen (RNCM Opera), Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Pehlivanian Professional Opera Academy), Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (WAAPA Opera), Mab and Chorus 1 in Dove’s The Enchanted Pig (WAAPA Opera), Annina in Verdi’s La traviata (Albany Entertainment Centre), and La Conversa II in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (Freeze Frame Opera). In opera scenes, she has performed Violetta (La traviata), Maria Stuarda (Maria Stuarda) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni). On the concert stage, she has sung in Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, and selections from Handel’s Messiah. From 2014 to 2019, Bonnie sang with the Australian treble choir Gondwana Voices, touring internationally to Europe and Asia.
Bonnie’s early musical development was supported by Opera Australia’s Regional Student Scholarship, awarded when she was sixteen, which enabled her to undertake intensive coaching, masterclasses and performance opportunities in Sydney. Alongside her opera studies, Bonnie has performed in original contemporary productions with Breaksea, a community-driven organisation creating work inspired by Western Australian stories and communities. She also has extensive dance training, including classical ballet.
In 2026 at the RNCM, Bonnie was awarded First Prize in both the Frederic Cox Award for Singing and the Bessie Cronshaw & Frost Brownson Song Cycle Prize, as well as Second Prize in the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss. Her previous accolades include the WAAPA Medal, First Prize at the Opera Lovers WA Aria Competition, the Barbara MacLeod Scholarship, Richard Gill Award, and Dame Mary Gilmore Award.
Bonnie is grateful for the support of the Anstey-Harriott Awards, WAAPA, The Ian Potter Cultural Trust and the Mary Thomson Musical Scholarship.
